Happy Spring - I so love the longer days. More hours for stitching!!!

Our next meeting will take place Thursday - April  30th at the Alexander Calhoun Library at 7 p.m.  (3223 14 Street Southwest, Calgary, AB).

Lots to chat about - Instructors and workshops (see email sent last week); meetings and membership; our mandate and where we go from here (including a creative challenge and monthly inspirations); June windup ideas.  If time and equipment permit, I will bring the DVD started last time.

Please bring Show & Tell - share your inspiration and a bit of yourself with fellow textile artists.

This meeting is open to all local, textile artists and those interested in textile art.
Hope to see you on the 30th.

Just for fun, create your Artists Statement the easy way!
Here's is what it generated for yours truly .....

Leslie 's Artist Statement

Through my work I attempt to examine the phenomenon of FogHorn Leghorn as a methaphorical interpretation of both Cezanne and Walking.

What began as a personal journey of Damn!ism has translated into images of fresh bread and hands that resonate with the Scottish people to question their own Chartreuseness.

My mixed media Table embodies an idiosyncratic view of the Pope, yet the familiar imagery allows for a connection between Amy Winehouse, Dogs and Candies.

My work is in the private collection of Julie who said 'Woo-hooo!, that's some real Wise Art.'

I am a recipient of a grant from Folsom Prison where I served time for stealing mugs and tie clips from the gift shop of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I have exhibited in group shows at A@W and Neue Galerie, though not at the same time. I currently spend my time between my Kitchen and Berlin.

Andrea Graham workshop update---venue change

I know that Wendy has let everyone know who is taking the workshop in June with Andrea Graham, but just to let you know that the venue has changed. Atlantis Fine framing and Gallery is no more. The lecture (as will the workshop) will be at St Peter's Anglican Church. All other info is the same.

The workshop is full, but Wendy is keeping a wait list as well.

Kudos and Calls

Opening Reception: 2 - 4 pm, Saturday, April 11

What does it mean to be ‘Landed’ on the Prairies?
Prairie people have deep connections to the land.  Its wide open spaces, demanding climate, and physical distances created challenges for settlers who wanted to call it home. Some loved the promise of a clean slate, a new home and land they could own. Others hated the lonely whistle of the wind, the backbreaking work and the struggle to survive. But love it or hate it, they endured—building a unique culture, social institutions and activities that helped them cope and thrive.

Judy Weiss and Sharon Willas Rubuliak present their personal perspectives on what it means to be ‘Landed’. Drawing on their own roots as descendants of homesteaders in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, their work incorporates collected stories and events of yesterday as well as personal travels and experiences of today.

Second showing at Art Square Gallery, Toronto, Ontario.
